I just gave my a Grokbot four years of past tax returns and financial files. Just a dump of folders and unlabled files. K-1s, 1099s, mortgage statements, HSA records, and every email with our CPA. 266 files. I just said, please double check my CPA's work. A few minutes later, it had found a lot of mistakes. Mortgage interest left off our 2022 return entirely. HSA payroll contributions counted twice, four years in a row, which created a penalty tax that never should have existed. A missing IRA form for Jen that would have cost us. On this year's return: home office errors, two K-1s missing, an outdated 1099, and startup losses we never claimed. And a retirement contribution the return already deducted...that we hadn't actually deposited. I sent it all to our CPA. They sent back an amended return. The bot reviewed that too. One fix went the wrong direction. The explanation had typos. Three versions later, all in one afternoon, it said ready to sign. Just a few hours start to finish. With about 90 seconds of my time and attention required. I was just the meat proxy hitting send as Grokbot watched the replies in my email. Our CPA is great and turned every fix around the same day. We chatted afterwards. He wanted to know what I was using - just normal ole' grokbot. I asked him what he was using? No AI tools. I set him up with @magnetictax for next season (we're an investor). All CPAs should be using Magnetic Tax or something like it. Every single one. All individuals should be double checking the work and past work with Grokbot or something like that. Want to copy the exact the prompt I used? it was just this: "Please do a thorough review of my taxes and help me understand if my CPA made any mistakes" "Think deeply" Or just tag your bot into this thread. To answer everyone’s questions below. Why not just use Magnetic Tax? Magnetic Tax is built for CPAs. It’s an AI workflow tool. Would’ve caught these mistakes for them, but it’s not for consumer use. Why not fire my CPA? I like working with people. And I like these people. AI should help make them more efficient, but they’ve worked with me for 10 years and likely will the next 10 years. Do I trust Grokbot with this information? Well, all I did was share with it my Dropbox folder of files that I had emailed to my CPA. So apparently, I trust Dropbox, Apple and Google. I guess I now trust Grokbot as well. Did this really happen or silly made up X post? I don’t do made up posts. Here are receipts.

What you need

Connected apps
A Dropbox folder of the files the author had sent the CPA, and the author’s email, where the bot watched the CPA’s replies.

What prompted it

The author wanted a second check on four years of returns prepared by a CPA, but the paperwork was a pile of unlabeled files: K-1s, 1099s, mortgage statements, HSA records and every email with the CPA.

What Grok Bot did

  1. Shared four years of returns and financial files with the bot: 266 files, none of them labeled.
  2. Asked it for a thorough review and whether the CPA had made mistakes.
  3. Within minutes it listed errors: mortgage interest left off the 2022 return, HSA payroll contributions counted twice four years running (which created a penalty tax), and a missing IRA form.
  4. On the current return it flagged home office errors, two missing K-1s, an outdated 1099, startup losses never claimed, and a retirement contribution that was deducted but never deposited.
  5. The author sent the findings to the CPA, who sent back an amended return, and the bot reviewed that as well.
  6. It caught one fix that went the wrong way and typos in the explanation. After three versions it said the return was ready to sign.

Evidence and limits

  • Original post checked on X (Oct 18, 2026)
  • Outcome reported by the author
  • Not reproduced by anyone else yet
  • The author kept the CPA, who uses no AI tools, and notes the files had already been shared through Dropbox anyway.
  • The author is an investor in Magnetic Tax, a tool for CPAs that the author set the CPA up with.
